What is the Social Software Showcase?

At ALA Midwinter 2007, over pizza and beer, the leaders of LITA BIGWIG decided they wanted to put on a technology program that was different then any other attempted at ALA. We wanted to create a program that could react to changing technology and leave room for creativity for the presenters. Most ALA programs are planned a year in advance. We wanted a short planning period so that technologies that emerged in between Annual conferences could be discussed. We also felt it was important to present the information in such a way that neither the presenters nor the attenddees needed to be present to learn and engage with each other. Thus, the Social Software Showcase was born.

On this wiki, there are 11 presentations by librarians and bibliophiles on the cutting edge of their field, pushing technology to its limits. The format and content was dictated by the presenters themselves. We will have a f2f discussion time at ALA Annual in Washington D.C. on Saturday, June 23rd, from 1:30-2:30 in the Renaissance Mayflower Cabinet Room. We hope to see you there.
